OSHA's Accident investigation standard (29 CFR 1904) is primarily a fact-finding procedure. The facts revealed are used to prevent recurrences of similar accidents in the future. The focus of accident investigation is to prevent future accidents and injuries in order to increase the safety and health of all employees. By establishing uniform requirements that ensure accidents are evaluated and controlled procedures can be implemented that reduce or prevent future occurrences, as well as provide proper hazard information to all affect workers.
