ASBESTOS AWARENESS

    Asbestos has been used in building construction materials, textiles, missile and jet parts, asphalt and caulking compounds, paints, and in friction products such as brake linings. Exposure to asbestos fibers and dust, however, can cause asbestos, a disease of the lungs caused by the inhalation of asbestos particles, and, after a latent period of up to 30 years and more, various cancers, especially lung cancer and mesothelioma, which is an inoperable cancer of the chest and abdominal lining.

The Outline:

    The following course outline is designed to make employees aware of the hazards associated with asbestos and how they can protect themselves.

  3. Hazards of Asbestos 
    1. How asbestos can harm the body
    2. Major health effects of exposure to asbestos
    3. Symptoms of asbestos related illnesses
    4. Relationship between smoking and asbestos in causing lung cancer
  4. Safety Precautions
    1. Preventing asbestos exposure
    2. Actions to take if exposed to ACM
    3. Procedures to follow in case of an asbestos related emergency
    4. Procedures for disposing of waste contaminated with asbestos.
