Lead Awareness (29 CFR 1910.1025)


    “Lead Safety” will help your workers understand the hazards of lead and teach them safe work practices. Your workers will learn how lead enters the body and how to protect themselves from overexposure.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - Upon completion, workers will be able to…
  1. Recognize health effects and risks of exposure
    1. Differentiate the ways lead enters the body.
    2. Identify types of overexposure.
    3. Recall symptoms and results of chronic overexposure.
    4. Recall symptoms and results of acute overexposure.
  2. Be aware of the Medical Surveillance Program
    1. Recall that medical tests are required before an employee begins work.
    2. Explain a medical determination.
    3. Recall employer’s obligation to notify the employee of test results.
  3. Explain the Exposure Control Plan
    1. Define the terms “Action Level” and “Permissible Exposure Limit”.
    2. Identify common Control Measures.
    3. List additional information found in the Exposure Control Plan.
  4. Recognize Air Monitoring Procedures
    1. Explain an exposure assessment.
    2. Describe the process used to monitor airborne lead concentration.
    3. Recall employer’s obligation to implement controls to limit overexposure.
